Watching the best filmmakers to improve our photography

Photography is in many ways like a movie, except it’s only a one frame scenario. Watching how the best filmmakers build a scene can be a great way to improve your ability to compose and tell a story with your photos.

Youtube channel Every Frame a Painting is dedicated to the analysis of film form. Some of the videos he created are gold for us photographers.

How directors use light can also help us understand how to use it. It is often a bit over the top, but C.S.I is the perfect example of how light can help tell a story. The lighting we see in C.S.I is totally non-realistic. No interrogation room or lab is lite like that. But the light tells a story by being a character by itself.
